My Approach
Pendennis Leisure Community Interest Company has been formed by residents of Falmouth, Penryn and surrounding villages to operate and enhance leisure services at Ships and Castles, Falmouth. Pendennis Leisure CIC was established to galvanise community support for and prepare for a community lead operation of Ships & Castles in the wake of the announcement that Cornwall Council intended to recommend closure of the leisure centre from March 2022.
Their aims are:
- To continue Ships & Castles operations
- To protect the site on Pendennis Headland
- To develop better sport, leisure and well-being facilities for Falmouth, Penryn and the surrounding area.
Pendennis Leisure came to me needing help with the promotion of their campaign and mission. I very much understand the need for a local leisure centre and being passionate about the provision of safe and accessible facilities for people to learn to swim as well as for wellness and health, this project was one that I felt proud to be part of. I helped to design a visual identity for the campaign, providing posters, social media artwork and other media to promote and spread their message. The leisure centre has since been saved and they are working on a way of temporarily reopening while planning to build a new pool which will be accessible for all and provide the much needed services that Falmouth is currently missing.
